I don’t know if hitting the five year mark on being married is still considered newlywed, but it certainly doesn’t feel like it.
*smile*
… in a good way, and in a more serious life has a way of sucking all the fun out sort of way.
I can remember the butterflies I would get in my stomach just thinking about seeing him again when we were dating and in college.
Love is wonderful, isn’t it?
I cherish those memories because when a storm comes they’ve all you got to hold onto, waiting and desperately hoping for the next sweet moment in life.
There is a scene in the movie “Just Married” that I will never forget. The newly married husband (ashton kutcher) was leaning on his dad for some marriage advice after their honeymoon was THE FIASCO of fiascos. He was flipping through old pictures and asked his dad what happened to all these happy memories. His dad replied replied with a lot of wisdom and said that the in-between moments are what get us from one happy moment/ picture to the next.
I don’t know about the rest of the world, but in our own marriage it seemed like there have been many opportunities to let our love go, and let the situations around us overwhelm us completely.
I believe that love comes easily, but to keep it is a choice.
Keeping love, unconditional love, is no doubt some of the hardest work I’ve ever done. Because it is constantly saying no to my own will and yes to someone else’s.
Keeping love is an eye-opener.
I would have to say that the love I have for my husband is a different love than the butterflies-in-the-stomach love I felt as a college student. It’s also different than the love I had for him before motherhood. The moment I witnessed his love for our daughter, the love became stronger. Deeper. Something that moves me to tears when I think about it.
Whether you have been married for ten years, or just newly married, I hope that you’ll decide to keep love.
It is the best gift you can ever give yourself.
